The afternoon of June 18, 2026 saw many disruptions caused by a windstorm that swept through Gowanda. A Facebook post from Gowanda Fire detailed the damage from storm which downed trees, many of which took out power lines disrupting service to many parts of the village.

According to the Gowanda Fire Department, there were “a total of 15 different locations where power lines and trees came down”. Many roadways were closed for an extended period of time, including Route 39 above Prospect Street and Route 62 at Sand Hill. Power outages started shortly after 1 PM and were mostly resolved by 11 PM. The cleanup effort gave fire departments, electric crews, tree crews and highway crews a busy day. Besides the Gowanda Fire Department, fire companies from Collins and Dayton were involved with traffic control while the fallen trees were cleared and power was being restored.
