On May 8, the Gowanda Varsity girls lacrosse team hosted City Honors at Hillis Field. It was the last regular season home game for the team in 2025. Just a minute into the game Karice John scored to put Gowanda up 1-0. Gowanda increased that to 8-1 by the end of the quarter including goals that marked Cadence Luther’s 100th career point and Lily Scanlan’s 100th career goal. Another Scanlan goal in the last second of the 1st quarter took the score to 13-1 at halftime. From there, Gowanda coasted through the 2nd half to a 19-3 victory.

The Gowanda Varsity girls lacrosse team celebrated their Senior Day on May 8, 2025. Three graduating Senior girls were honored before the last regular season home game of their high school career. Pictured, from left to right, are Karice John, Lily Scanlan and Hannah Valentine.

The Gowanda Varsity baseball team hosted Randolph on May 7, 2025. Randoph struggled thoughout the game. After giving up five 1st inning runs, Randolph allowed a pair of runs in each of the next two innings. Sealing their fate in the 4th inning, Randolph walked five of the first six Gowanda batters, scoring Gowanda runs #10 and #11. With two outs on Gowanda, Logan Ruff cleared the bases with a double bringing Gowanda’s total to 14. He later scored himself closing out the Gowanda score at 15-0. In the 5th inning, Carter Capozzi finished the one-hit shutout by retiring the first three Randolph batters in order.

After being put on 1st base with a walk, Blake Herman scores the 1st of Gowanda’s five 1st inning runs. In addition to being walked twice, Herman singled, had an RBI and scored three Gowanda runs.

Madden Lay scores run #5 to close out the Gowanda scoring in the first inning. He had two hits in the game, including a double, an RBI and scored two runs.

Gowanda pitcher, Carter Capozzi, only needed five innings of one-hit ball to gain a 15-0 shutout of Randolph.

The Gowanda Varsity boys and girls track teams closed out their home season on May 6th hosting Frewsburg. Both teams fell short on the day despite some highlight Gwanda performances. The boys score was 43-94 while the girls ended up 49-88.

Gowanda’s Elizabeth Malek took a 1st place in the 100m hurdles.

In a very close finish in the 100m dash, Gowanda’s Damien Cedri took 1st Place (11.7) and Gowanda’s Reginald Irion took 2nd.

Gowanda’s Isabella DeGolier took 1st Place in the high jump at 4′8”.

Gowanda’s Chase Bolen wins the 800m race in 2:10.3. He also took 1st in the 1600m (4:54.9).
