May 17 Softball
On Saturday night, May 17, the Gowanda Varsity softball team closed out the regular season hosting Westfield for a non-league game. Things started out bright for Gowanda. Addison Kota singled, and later scored, for Gowanda in both the 1st and 3rd innings. Along with a 2nd inning score by Lauren Kelly, Gowanda had a 3-0 lead at that point. Westfield opened the 4th inning with four straight singles, the last of which resulted in a runner being thrown out at home. Westfield then got on the board with a bases loaded walk. The score was 3-1 heading into a 5th inning that saw Westfield tie things up at 3-3. After a scoreless 6th inning, Westfield added what turned out to be the winning run in the 7th inning. Final score was 4-3.

In the 1st inning, Holland Browning had tripled to bring Addison Kota home for Gowanda’s first run. Later, She gets caught trying to get to home herself.

In the third inning, Kota is seen heading to 2nd base. The Westfield throw went past 2nd base and into the outfield allowing her to continue on and score for the second time in the game.

In the 6th inning, Gowanda’s Lauren Kelly (#30) makes a play at 1st base. This was Westfield’s second out in the inning. Later, with two runners on base, Holland Browning made a catch at shortstop to end the inning.

May 16 Baseball
The Gowanda Varsity baseball team hosted North Collins on May 16, 2025. It was a disastrous night for North Collins pitchers starting with their intended starting pitcher being replaced before the game got underway. Gowanda piled up runs in a game that saw more North Collins pitchers than innings.
The first inning saw Gowanda get 5 walks on the way to an initial 7-0 lead. A 6-hit 2nd inning moved the Gowanda advantage to 12-1. With 7 hits and 4 walks in the 3rd inning, the score ballooned to 19-1. Gowanda picked up an additional run in the 4th. At that point, the North Collins dugout emptied and formed a line for post the game greeting between the teams. Gowanda did not respond and, after being informed by the umpire that the game couldn’t be terminated before the 5th inning, a final three North Collins batters were retired in order to close things out.

Midway through the 3rd inning, Gowanda’s Seth Geiger (#3) slides into home base. He had two singles on the day and scored twice.

Also in the 3rd inning, Gowanda’s Blake Herman (#27) smashes a triple to clear the loaded bases for 3 RBIs. He was 3 for 4 on the day and scored three runs.

Gowanda pitcher, Seth Geiger, delivers the ball in the 4th inning against North Collins. He had six stikeouts in the game while giving up four hits. With the Gowanda lead standing at 20-1 after the 4th inning, Geiger was relieved by Logan Ruff to closeout the game.
