Gowanda Small Town Times

On May 20, the Gowanda Varsity softball team hosted a Pre-Quarter-Finals game against Maple Grove. Gowanda got off to a quick start taking a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning. They stretched that to 7-0 in the 2nd inning. Both teams would add a pair of runs in the 3rd inning and single runs in the 4th. A defense-filled 5th inning saw both retired quickly with three of four batters yielding outs. After shuting down Maple Grove again in the 6th inning, Gowanda padded their total with four additional runs, the last being a bases-loaded walk.

In the 2nd inning, Maple Grove tries to make a play on Gowanda’s Addison Kota stealing 3rd base, but misses the ball. That allowed Kota to get up and continue on to score for the second time in the game. She had 2 doubles and was walked twice in six at bats scoring four runs.

Late in the 6th inning, Holland Browning heads home to close out the Gowanda scoring on a bases-loaded walk. Browning had two hits and a walk in 5 at bats scoring three runs.
